The Explorer II added a fixed 24-hour bezel and a dedicated orange 24-hour hand to the original Explorer's formula in 1971, letting a wearer track a second time zone or distinguish day from night. Case size moved from a vintage 40mm to the current 42mm, and dials come in white ('Polar') or black; every version runs on a steel Oyster bracelet with no gem-set or two-tone options. Frequently searched references include the vintage 1655, the 40mm 16570 and 216570, and the current 42mm 226570. The 1655's fully orange 24-hour hand and bezel numerals earned it the collector nickname "Freccione" (Italian for "big arrow"), and it remains one of the more distinctive vintage tool-watch designs Rolex has produced.
