What Is a Halo Engagement Ring?
A halo engagement ring (also called a diamond halo ring) sets a center diamond inside a ring of small pavé diamonds — the ‘halo’ — that frames and visually enlarges the stone. It’s one of the most popular US engagement-ring styles, ~25–30% of sales.
- Looks bigger — the halo adds roughly 20–30% to perceived carat weight from a typical viewing distance.
- Best value per dollar — a 1.0ct round in a thin halo reads like a 1.5ct solitaire at 30–50% less, since pavé costs a fraction of added center-stone size.
- Heritage look — rooted in Georgian/Victorian gemstone framing and revived in Art Deco; the geometric precision modern halos still echo.

Hidden Halo, Double Halo, and Halo Variants
Beyond the traditional single halo, the major variants:
- Hidden halo — pavé tucked UNDER the center stone’s basket; reads as a clean solitaire from above, sparkles from the side. The fastest-growing halo sub-style of the last 5 years.
- Double halo — two concentric pavé rings around the center; bolder and more glamorous, adds another 10–15% perceived size, costs ~30–50% more than a single halo.
- Floral halo — petal-shaped openings or scalloped edges suggesting flower petals; the most distinctive vintage-revival variant, especially romantic with cushion centers.
- Halo with pavé band — accent diamonds extending down both sides of the band for continuous sparkle from center outward. One of the most-purchased configurations.
