Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date — nicknamed the 'President' after its signature bracelet — was Rolex's first watch to spell out the day of the week in full alongside the date, and remains the only Rolex line never produced in steel: every Day-Date is solid 18k yellow, white, or Everose gold, or platinum. The classic case size held at 36mm for nearly five decades before the 40mm Day-Date II arrived in 2008, followed by the current 40mm Day-Date in 2015. The five-piece President bracelet is effectively part of the model's identity, though a small number of vintage references were fitted to Oyster or Jubilee bracelets instead. Well-known references include the vintage 1803 and 18038, and the modern 228238 and 228239.
