How a custom chain is made
A custom chain is built link by link to your choice of style, length, and metal weight, rather than picked from a fixed run. This guide walks the four stages every commission moves through, then covers the two short-chain builds — anklets and chokers — that are fitted differently.

What Your Custom Chain Commission Involves
A custom chain is built link by link to your choice of style, length, and metal weight, rather than picked from a fixed run. Every custom chain moves through the same four stages before it reaches your hand:
- Link style — Cuban, rope, figaro, box, or a fully original link, built in 14K/18K yellow, white, or rose gold.
- Length & weight — every custom chain is built to your exact length and gauge, not a stock size off a card.
- Finishing — polished, diamond-cut, or matte, with a clasp sized and tested for daily wear before it leaves the atelier.
- Timeline — most custom chains run a few weeks from approved design to delivery; we confirm a firm timeline at your consultation, before any work starts.
Working from a reference photo, a family piece, or a rough sketch, our jewelers translate your idea into a build sheet and refine it with you in person — see the full custom jewelry process for a stage-by-stage walkthrough of how we build a custom chain or bracelet alongside you, from first sketch to finished piece.
Custom Anklets and Choker Necklaces
An anklet and a choker are both short-chain builds — the same link-by-link craft as the custom chains above, scaled down and fitted to a different length.
Custom Anklets
A custom anklet is built to the length that actually sits right on your ankle, not a generic stock size, in a gauge sturdy enough for constant motion — cable, curb, and figaro links hold up to daily wear better than a fine fashion chain does. We can add a name charm the same way we do on the custom name bracelets we build, or keep it plain.
Custom Choker Necklaces
A custom choker necklace sits high and close to the throat — typically 13–15 inches, against the 16–18 inch range most of the custom chains above are built to — so clasp placement and fit matter more than they do on a longer piece. We build the gauge and clasp specifically for that snugger length and test it for comfort before it leaves the atelier.
