Men's Gold Chains — Weights, Styles & Costs
The dominant men’s category by volume. Style determines aesthetic; weight determines presence and cost.
- Rope chain — textured, classic, holds shape. 2–4mm daily-wear ($600–$2,000); 5–8mm statement ($2,500–$8,000).
- Cable / box chain — modern, smooth, layerable. Lighter on the neck.
- Cuban link — flat interlocking, contemporary statement. 6mm+ reads bold; under 4mm reads jewelry-store stock.
- Curb chain — classic flat-link, the original masculine chain. Pairs with pendants.
- Figaro — vintage Italian-American look (3+1 pattern). Polarizing; either fits or doesn’t.
- Herringbone — flat, sleek, dressy. Kinks if mistreated — not for active wear.
Daily-wear chain weight: 15–30g in 14K (2–4mm width). Statement: 40–80g (5–8mm). Heavier = more presence and cost.
Length rule: 20” sits at collarbone (most common); 22–24” sits mid-chest; 18” reads choker on most adult men.

Signet Rings — Designs & Engraving Specs
The most-requested men’s custom commission. Engraving placement and font determine longevity.
- Single-letter signet — clean modern. Stock in A–Z, 1–3 day turnaround. $600–$1,500 in 14K.
- Monogram signet — 2–3 interlocked letters. Custom-cut, 2–3 weeks. $1,200–$3,000.
- Family crest signet — coat-of-arms or custom heraldic design. Full custom, 4–6 weeks. $2,500–$6,000.
- Coordinates signet — engraved with lat/long of a meaningful place. Use degrees+minutes format only.
- Plain signet — no engraving, just the classic oval/cushion face. $500–$1,200.
Engraving styles: Roman block ages best (30+ years readable). Old English script is heritage-look but wears faster. Modern sans-serif reads contemporary, ages well.
Don’t engrave in 10K — the alloy is too hard, lines come out shallow and disappear in 5–7 years.
