The shift in modern engagement-ring tradition

The tradition of a ring for the woman only is shifting — about 20% of US engagements now include a ring for the male partner, up from under 5% a decade ago. Same-sex couples led the shift; straight couples increasingly follow with matched or coordinated pairs. Men’s rings tend toward cleaner band profiles and less ornament. The most popular silhouettes in our showroom:

• Bezel-set solitaire — single diamond rimmed in metal, the most modern silhouette.
• Signet-style — no stone, engraved family crest or initials.
• Two-tone / mixed-metal — yellow gold band with a white gold center accent.
• Black-diamond or black-set — masculine color depth.

How matched-pair commissions work at our atelier

About 30% of our commissions are matched or coordinated pairs. The process:

• Consultation — a single 60-minute session, both partners present (in person or video), to set the shared visual language: metal, finish, band detail, stone strategy.
• CAD modeling — both rings designed in parallel so proportions echo without one feeling like a copy.
• Fabrication — 4–6 weeks for both rings.
• Sizing & pricing — final sizing in-store (including any stacking strategy); both rings quoted individually and as a pair, with a small bundled-commission discount.
