How custom grillz are made
A commissioned grillz piece moves through four stages before it reaches your hand — impression, casting, metal & stone selection, and hand-finishing. This guide walks each of them, then explains what separates an open-face piece from a solid or fully-iced one.

What Your Grillz Commission Involves
A commissioned grillz piece moves through four stages before it reaches your hand — impression, casting, metal & stone selection, and hand-finishing:
- Dental-safe impression — we take a putty mold of your teeth in-house at your consultation, the same process used for a mouthguard, so the finished piece is cast to your bite rather than a generic size.
- Gold karat — cast in 10K, 14K, 18K, or 24K gold, in yellow, white, or rose finishes, sized directly from your impression.
- Diamond setting — leave it plain, add accent stones to an open-face design, or go fully-iced with pavé-set diamonds across the whole surface.
- Timeline — most commissions run a couple of weeks from your impression appointment to delivery; we confirm a firm timeline once the design and stone plan are locked in.
From a single tooth to a full top-and-bottom set, our jewelers walk you through metal, finish, and stone choices at your consultation — see the full custom jewelry process for a stage-by-stage walkthrough of how we build every commission alongside you, from impression to finished piece.

Open-Face, Solid & Fully-Iced Grillz Styles
Every grillz commission starts with a choice of base style, each cast differently against your impression:
- Open-face grillz — a window is cut into the front of each tooth so your natural tooth still shows through the gold, a lighter, more subtle look.
- Solid grillz — each tooth is fully covered in one continuous piece of metal, the classic full-coverage build.
- Fully-iced grillz — built on a solid or open-face base, then pavé-set with diamonds or stones across the entire visible surface for maximum shine.
All three styles are cast from the same in-house impression, so the fit is identical — the choice comes down to how much metal and how much sparkle you want showing.
