About

About the Omega Speedmaster

Omega introduced the Speedmaster in 1957 as a chronograph aimed at racing drivers, built around a tachymeter scale on the bezel for calculating speed. NASA tested several chronographs for its astronauts in the 1960s and selected the Speedmaster, and the watch went on to be worn during the Apollo moon landings, which is where the "Moonwatch" name comes from. The core Moonwatch Professional has kept a manual-wind movement and a similar case design across decades, while Omega has also built automatic and co-axial Speedmaster variants with date windows and other case sizes alongside it. The line today spans the manual-wind Moonwatch, racing-oriented models, and modern chronometer-certified versions.

We disclose condition plainly on every listing: mint, excellent, good or fair, whether the watch ships with its original box, and any service history we know about. A Speedmaster without its papers isn't necessarily a concern, but we tell you exactly what documentation comes with the specific watch you're looking at before you buy.
